ON DESIGNATION Follower of Joseph BAIL, 19th century FRENCH school, The young cook watercolor on paper 12 x 7.5 cm (sheet view) in frame Joseph Bail worked with his father, Jean Antoine Bail, and later with Jean Léon Gérôme and Carolus Duran. He is renowned for his talent in genre scenes. Influenced by realism and naturalism, he captures everyday life with precision and luminosity. He regularly exhibits his work at the Paris Salon. In addition to the Salon, he participated in international exhibitions. Among his notable works, the Hermitage Museum holds "Le Marmiton" (1893).
