The Bénézit indicates that Léon Louis Mahelin was a pupil of Les Vergnes and P. Maurou. He was also a member of the Société des Artistes Français from 1907, and exhibited regularly at the Salon between 1893 and 1911. He received an honorable mention in 1898.
