Lizzie Alba The Oysters, 2022 Oil pastels on canvas signed lower right 100 x 80 cm Comment: The visible contrast between the two women depicted in the painting highlights two personalities: the woman in the foreground is shown with an apparent fragility, her skin white and emaciated. The second woman, portrayed with an aura of invincibility, holds a dagger firmly in her bloodied hand. Around her neck, she proudly wears a collar reminiscent of a vulva. This painting, which represents two self-portraits by the artist, expresses an inner tension, two facets of femininity, two "selves". One seems to be defending or protecting the other. Their postures and the closeness between their bodies also tell a story of friendship; of sisterhood between these two personalities, two identities that are in reality only the representation of the same person. The subject of this painting echoes the artist's own work: a quest for identity.
